Airbnb culture has changed - micvite - 05-16-2024

I miss the good ol' days when Airbnb first started and most hosts were renting out spare bedrooms and their vacation homes. These days now that Airbnb is open to the masses, I am getting more and more rude and entitled guests. The guest back then were fun, easy going people with stories to tell and I always received good reviews.

The worst is when guests who are not familiar with Airbnb are demanding a hotel like stay and constantly break rules thinking they can do what they want because they paid for it. Guests expecting the trash can to have no trash upon arrival when there is only trash pick-up once a week, guests who blatantly break quiet hours and guests who threaten to lead bad reviews if they don't get a discount for nitpicks.

It's all about managing their expectations. If you are getting too many of these guests, change your prices, never give in to discounts and make sure you avoid red flags from. Of course, if you have instantbook on and are just looking to set it and forget it and accept any type of guest that walks through the door you are bound to have these unpleasant incidents. We've been hosting for two years and have only great experiences. We've probably turned away 25% of inquiries.
