New State Tax on Short Term Retanls [DE] - mudpuppy - 11-25-2024 Looks like the state has approved a new STR tax. Hopefully airbnb makes this as seamless as possible - from what I read airbnb/vrbo will be collecting the tax and remitting it to the state on behalf of hosts? https://news.delaware.gov/2024/11/20/division-of-revenue-releases-guidance-on-new-short-term-rental-lodging-tax/ RE: New State Tax on Short Term Retanls [DE] - Lyme - 11-26-2024 It looks like airbnb has worked out an agreement with Delaware to remit taxes on behalf of hosts. https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/2509#HELP_ARTICLE_ARTICLE_GROUP_SECTION_1 Honestly I'm glad that the rules were established on a statewide level, rather than having a patchwork of different rates across different cities. At least this way airbnb has a set of defined rules for the entire state and is working to ensure compliance. Some cities mandate that taxes be collected but it falls on the hosts as from what I've seen airbnb makes very little effort to work with local jurisdications to come up with a process to collect taxes.
