Guest peed on bed - micvite - 06-22-2025

Title says it all.. i'm assuming it may have been one of their kids, since they had a toddler. This is only our 5th guest and we did have a mattress protector cover on it, but it didn’t appear to help. Our cleaner noticed the cover had a urine stain and the bed had a stain in the same area.

Since we are somewhat new how should we go about this? Do we contact Airbnb first to submit a claim or should we contact the guest first? The mattress is a foam one..do others with this type of issue just toss the mattress and ask for $ for a replacement?  Do we contact Airbnb first to submit a claim or should we contact the guest first? We don’t have anyone checking in for a few days but it would probably still take at least a week to get the same mattress (we bought it online) and get it setup.
Just need advice on how to handle this with the guest, Airbnb, and future guests.

If it's a foam mattress it will be almost impossible to get the stain out. Using bleach will just make it worse.. had it happen to us as well. Get yourself a better mattress protector that is actually waterproof.

Take pictures of stain, reach out to guest first. If they reject paying for damages (new mattress) then submit pictures to Airbnb for Aircover.

This won't be the first time you get some sort of stains on the bed. Make sure you're investing in a quality waterproof cover especially if you have a foam mattress as stains show up so easily on those and the more you clean it the yellower/dirtier it will look.
