New phone scams - SilverStateMan - 10-21-2025 Yesterday was the second time recently I've gotten an unsolicited call claiming to be Airbnb support. They even show up on caller ID as Airbnb, and tell me about some complaint from my guest (who literally just left me five stars), or about criminal activity occurring in my Airbnb. I called Airbnb support the first time, after getting suspicious, and they didn't know about any such call. The second one asked me for a two-factor authentication code — which Airbnb would never do, and which is a risk that could allow someone else to break into my account if I gave it to them. I don't need any advice here, but it's an alarming uptick recently, so I wanted to share. Be alert, don't give your security codes to anyone who calls you, and don't become the next victim of these scams. If it sounds fishy, hang up and call Airbnb support directly. If it's real, Airbnb support that you called will tell you the same thing. If they don't know about it, the first one wasn't Airbnb. You caught a scam, and good job protecting yourself! RE: New phone scams - ChrisFromTheOC - 10-22-2025 They are trying to hijack you're account to change the payout account to their own. One payout takeover and it could be worth a few months salary for someone! RE: New phone scams - xiaoxiao - 10-23-2025 You also need to figure out if they got your password. If they are phishing for the code its possible they already have the password to that account. Do you have the same password/username combination across multiple sites? I would change my password if I were you as well. |
