Removing an Airbnb Review From Guest

Since this is such a frequently brought up question on this forum, I am providing the most updated guidance from Airbnb, which can be found here

What Scenarios Qualify?

- If a guest never arrived for their stay, service, or experience, or had to cancel due to circumstances unrelated to that reservation, their review may be removed.  This one is generally easiest.

- Members of the Airbnb community may not coerce, intimidate, extort, threaten, incentivize or manipulate another person in an attempt to influence a review, like promising compensation in exchange for a positive review or threatening consequences in the event of a negative review.

- Reviews may not be provided or withheld in exchange for something of value—like a discount, refund, reciprocal review, or promise not to take negative action against the reviewer. They also may not be used as an attempt to mislead or deceive Airbnb or another person. For example, guests should not write biased or inauthentic reviews as a form of retaliation against a host who enforces a policy or rule.

- Reviews may only be provided in connection with a genuine stay, service, or experience. For example, hosts are not allowed to accept a fake reservation in exchange for a positive review, use a second account to leave themselves a review, or coordinate with others to manipulate the review system.

- Reviews may not be used for the purpose of harming competition. For example, hosts are not allowed to post biased reviews of listings they are affiliated with or directly compete with.

What about Those "Paid" Review Services on Facebook, Reddit or the Forums?

While we are not suggesting to engage in such behavior and purchases these services, there are many reports of success through "compromised" customer service agents with access to the systems. Keep in mind that many of the overseas customer service agents make shockingly low wages, and even making $50 on the side for removing a review can be the equivalent of a week's salary for a few minutes of worth. There are also reports that Airbnb now has controls to monitor who is removing reviews, so take this with a grain of salt. Is it worth getting your host account deleted for engaging in this activity?

If the airbnb review system was not so ridiculously unfair when guests are able to blackmail hosts then people would not be resorting to these sort of services.

I'm glad that removing a review for guests not arriving is as easy as it is. Shocked Airbnb wouldn't keep the reviews intact with the argument that it's "Part of the guest experience".

Here’s what bothers me the most - Airbnb does NOT operate on whether or not a review is truthful, just if it is the guest's experience. You can respond and mention how this is incorrect, but not being truthful is not against Airbnb's review policy. The best way to describe it is that a guest can leave me a 2 Star Review upset that we are not within walking distance to Times Square and that is NOT against Airbnb's Review Policy. It does not matter that I am located in Florida and not New York City and it does not matter that I never mention anything about Times Square in the listing.
