Advice needed! People checking in different than booker - Smilez - 01-15-2026
Hi everyone, We’re fairly new to hosting on Airbnb and wanted to get your advice.
A guest originally booked our apartment for 4 nights and then extended for 3 more for a full week. However, when check-in happened, 3 men arrived (none with luggage) and the woman who booked the reservation was not with them. My husband also noticed a strong smell of weed on them.
This feels like a red flag to us, and we’re unsure how best to handle the situation while staying within Airbnb’s rules. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? What would you recommend as the next steps?

You should contact support as soon as you realized that the person who booked wasn't there as it is against the guest terms and conditions. At this point based on what you are saying if you haven’t contacted support I'd probably ride it out and hope for the best, but in the future I would amend your house rules and your listing to make it absolutely clear that the person booking the room is the only person who will be allowed to physically check in.

Make sure to keep all comms throught the app. Did you reach out nicely to the "guest" (booker) and ask how their check-in went? Their reply (or lack of) may help put you at ease.
