My property manager is recommending that I get darker color sheets and towels because all of mine are white. I got these because hotels always have all white linens, and I assumed this was because you can bleach everything with extra hot water and everything comes out really clean. With the added benefit that the rooms look nice and crisp with white linens. Am I wrong? Would I be better off with darker color linens? What do you all use?

You have now hit upon the second-most contentious topics on this Airbnb forum with a lot of strongly held opinions. (If you curious, the question of whether anything with scent should be used to clean, or wash is the first-most contentious topic.) That said, you can safely ignore comments claiming to know what "all guests like.' Stick to listening to opinions from verified hosts about what has worked well for them.

Based on several years of participating on this Airbnb host forum I would say a slight majority of hosts prefer all white, cotton linens for the ease of bleaching, noticing stains, and getting stains out. This preference is particularly pronounced among hosts who use hired-cleaners. I have been a host for going on 6 years, I clean my Airbnb myself, as well as doing my own laundry. I prefer dark colored linens, and I have never ever had a guest complain about not having white linens.

I use all white only because it’s easier to clean them with bleach. I used colored with patterns before and many of them got discolorations. Also white get this clean look, a feel that you stay at hotel. I am not sure why some hosts advise you to use dark sheets. Spots are as visible on dark sheets as on white but dark sheets you can’t bleach.

I have white towels and my sheets are white but they do have minimalistic patterns on them. To me it’s the benefit of having white sheets but still keeping it homey and in keeping with my overall design. When I’m traveling in hotels I do appreciate being able to see stains on white sheets but I also now associate those with hotels or hospitals, and I really want more of a comfortable, homelike situation for an AirBnB. This may also be because I’m targeting mid-term stays, but doing AirBnB in between. Either way though, everyone seems happy so far and I have gotten only great reviews.

Darker colors will last longer but white leaves a better impression around cleanliness. Same reason why chefs and surgeons wear white (obviously changing now with fashion).

Stick with white. Towels that are non-white will get ruined anyways by whitening toothpaste and skincare with anti aging or anti acne ingredients.

Stay with the white you are 100% correct.. I would look for a new PM...sounds like they want to cut corners on cleaning and be lazy.. what else are they missing?
