We changed our cancellation to strict about 5 months ago because we were getting more and more cancellations. Now they just ask for the fee to be waived. We have always just accepted the waiver request because usually it left us with plenty of time to rebook.
One of the upcoming guests is looking to waive the cancellation fees within a shorter 2 week period which we probably won't be able to fill. He didn't give much info either, just that there was a friends illness. I felt and still feel bad about declining their request and had they given us a more complete story I perhaps would have obliged. How often are you all wavering on the cancellation fees?
