I have been a super host with four properties for 6 years. I have had many exceptional guests and many that are returning guests. I actually have tracked the number of bad guests because a bad guest costs me money. During the first 5 years it worked out that 1 out of every 10 guests fit the bad category. However over the last two years that has spiked to 1 out of every 3. Is anyone else experiencing this significant up tick in people costing you money? I have dozens of examples of guests needless costing me money, but here are a couple: Contractor taking sand caked work clothes and putting sand and all in 6 month old wash machine. Sand seized machine up.

Family of three stayed 5 nights in house with 4 beds. Two of the beds were urinated in. Am I the only one experiencing this trend in bad guests?

Yes, I have been hosting for 2.5 years and have noticed this past summer we had some particularly difficult/ “bad” guests.

I’ve done a lot of thinking about why this may be and I’m not sure. Our home is on the beach and has had steady improvements over the 2.5 years. Therefore, I was expecting our guest experience (and therefore our reviews/the ease of the guest stays) to improve over time as well. The opposite has happened - it seems the guest quality is independent of the improvements to the house that we make.

do think there is something to Airbnb policies contributing to an entitlement guests feel. I also think our culture here in the US is very divisive and there is anger towards folks who have multiple homes when affording one is becoming difficult.

I have noticed an increase as well. People used to be appreciative now not as much. Long term rental has gone up so I’m probably going to move them to long term. I make more money Airbnb but much more hassle.
