I recently decided to spend the night at my Airbnb and I discovered things that I would annoy me as a guest. I noticed a squeaky bed, draws that don't open and close properly and a list of other things guests had not flagged up yet. I would encourage all hosts to spend the night at their own listing as this could flag issues, highlight things your Airbnb could benefit from and prevent an unwanted review.

I just visited one of my properties last week and I slept in a different room every night to really see my home. I cooked in the kitchen and really tried to use everything. I even took showers in different bathrooms. I was able to go shopping and have repairs completed based on this. You are spot on.

Pay special attention to the curtains and the ability to block light in the room. Guests staying in the summer on vacation might want to wake up well after sunrise. Also, an infant or small child (...or adult) in the room might need to nap during the day.

Every airbnb host should. We stay at our Airbnb several months each year. We have a second Airbnb that has gone live last month but I blocked the calendar until we’ve stayed there ourselves in a week because I know i”ll notice some things that need changing, or are needed or need fixing etc.

This is probably one of the best peices of advice on this airbnb host forum....100% you need to experience the whole place to see all the tiny details you may be missing.

We have also asked friends to stay so we can get feedback. Very helpful, especially the right friend who notices the details and isn't one of those "whatever" people.

Absolutely! It’s the best exercise ever. This goes from lights to comfort details, noises, etc. I’ve been doing this at all the airbnb properties that I host at.
