Cancellation request question

Guest tried to cancel less than 24 hours before check in because it’s going to be hot…in the desert.

I declined and politely explained we can’t honor a refund for this request and he just requested new dates for basically the same price.

To be a good host I’m tempted to accept but I’m wondering if he’ll be able to cancel the new dates within 24 hours and get a full refund? Is the new date booking considered a new booking? Or no because it’s changing dates on an old booking?

Sounds like they are just fishing to see if they can rebook at a future date which will allow them to then cancel with no penalty.

This is the oldest trick in the book guests play on airbnb hosts. When you alter the dates, it resets the reservation and they will be able to cancel immediately with a full refund. Decline his request or close off the days that he’s requesting.
