Do infants count as extra guests?

My Airbnb has a guest limit of 4 and we have it set up so that the fourth guest will incur extra charge of $50 per night. This is primarily to dissuade groups as our place is mainly set up for single professionals/couples.

We have instant booking turned on and our most recent booking the guest indicated 3 people. However, in his message he mentions there are three adults and one 1 year old girl as well. What should I do in this situation? Should I ask him to pay the extra fee? We usually wouldn't even really consider allowing children as or place has several steep steps and isn't what I would consider "child proof". (hard edges, etc.)

I would let it slide this once, but make it clear in your listing if you don't feel comfortable with young children or infants then indicate that it is not child friendly and you do not have amenities for infants.

I wouldn't count the kid, she probably sleeps with her parents.

Airbnb doesn't count infants, the cut-off is 2 years old. However, depending on just jurisdictions an infant/child is considered a person in the guest count for capacity purposes.
