I'm looking into hosting my first STR, I was hoping some experienced hosts could give me some tips on how to get my listing seen by potential guests?

Does Airbnb do a great job at this already?
I guess over all I want to hear what I can expect to be hard about hosting.

Essentially, this is a service job. It’s part of the service sector, with all of the baggage that comes with it. The more service you put in, the more heart your business will have, and the more service you take out, the harder it becomes. If you don't like making compromises and putting your foot down when it's necessary than this gig isnt for you.

You will eventually encounter all sorts of undesirables but you can avoid it by not being the cheapest option in your area.

Make sure you do your market research for your area.

Think about both your rules and the consequences of guests breaking them. A rule with no consequences means nothing and people will always be pushing the rules.

Airbnb will give you the most reach and exposure of all the available options but it's still your job to have great pictures and an inviting living space that people will actually want to book. Unless you are shooting for the lowest priced listing possible..

The biggest challenge in 2025 is now each other. The market is so over saturated with hosts even with regulations weeding out the weak that being a STR host just isn't what it used to be.

I'm assuming you'll have neighbors of some sort unless your property is a 1000 acre ranch. Make sure you are on good terms with neighbors and do everything possible to make sure that they are not being bothered. All it takes is one neighbor to cause a ruckus and it can be a non-stop headache that will get in the way of what you are doing.
