If you need to spend significant amounts of money adding in a kitchen, plumbing etc. you should just consider renting out the whole house instead and keep a locked room for your personal items.
The main house is not very attractive and not in a condition which would rent for a significant amount of money (think bathrooms from the 70's). The thing is, the main house has alot of sentimental items and value and as such we do not even plan to renovate it anytime soon. The lower area/basement is already set up as a studio with it's own plumbing.
